Can I swim after having a tattoo?
No. Tattoos are like a wound or sore, and soaking them in water can cause infections and slow the healing process. This includes the beach, pools, spas and baths. You can shower normally and wash your tattoo with normal soap. Remember to pat it dry.
Is it painful?
YES. Don't fool yourself, Tattoos break the skin and are therefore a little painful. There is no real way to describe the feeling as it is completely different for each person and on each part of the body. The one thing to consider is that it won't kill you. For most the pain is bearable for an hour or two. If you don't think you can handle it, then don't do it. Once we start a Tattoo you can't pull out until the first stage of line work is complete.
I hear there are numbing products for the skin, can I use them?
Preferrably not. There are a number of creams on the market designed to numb the skin but they are not recommended. Numbing creams can change the texture of the skin and make it more difficult to Tattoo. Most only last for a few minutes and end up being a waste of money. If you really want a Tattoo, you have to earn it, by dealing with the pain.
How long will my tattoo take?
This question has no answer. The time it takes to do a Tattoo depends on many factors such as how still you sit, how big and complex the piece is and how much you complain! Larger Tattoos will often be broken up into 2 or 3 hour sittings. Full sleeves and back jobs are generally 20+ hours depending on the detail involved.
How long will my tattoo last?
FOREVER. Tattoos are permanent and will be with you till the day you die. As your skin changes through life, so will your Tattoo. Sun damage and aging will effect your Tattoo over time. There are ways to have Tattoos removed, but they are a lot more painful, more expensive and not always completely effective.
How much does it hurt?
We get asked every day if Piercings hurt and how much. Be realistic. Yes they hurt, but the procedure is relatively quick and simple for most Piercings. You need to weigh up how much you really want the Piercing against living with the pain. 9 times out of 10 its nowhere near as bad as you'd expect.
Can I use anything to numb the pain?
Not really. Numbing creams only work on the top layers of skin and aren't very strong. Numbing creams also defeat the purpose of having a Piercing. Body Piercings originate from a number of ancient cultures, where the Piercings were a rite of passage into adulthood and you had to earn the piercing by dealing with the pain.
I've heard your face can be paralysed if you hit a nerve when piercing the eyebrow. Is this true?
NO. This is some sort of urban legend that isn't true. The amount of skin that is pierced through is a lot smaller than you think. There aren't any major nerves near your eyebrow.
Are walk in appointments available for Piercings?
No. Often we are Tattooing clients and do not have time for piercings. You will need to give us a call to book an individual appointment. We will not take bookings for more than a day ahead for piercings, as people will often not show. If you would like to book in advance, be prepared to pay for the piercing when you make the booking.
How much will my tattoo cost?
There is no exact answer for this without seeing a tattoo. The minimum charge in the studio is $150 and it works upwards from there. Pieces that are completed in one session will often be quoted for before the work is started. Larger work cannot be priced as we don't know how long a piece will take. In these instances we will charge an hourly rate of $150. For large custom pieces, we may include a drawing fee, as your picture can often take hours to design and draw.
What do I need to do to book in?
If you would like to book in for a Tattoo you will need to phone to arrange an initial consultation, where you will also need to bring a $100 cash deposit, which will secure you an appointment and be deducted off the price of your tattoo. You will also need to have an idea of what you want, so that we can have the piece drawn up exactly before your appointment.
How far in advance are bookings?
In the new Mobile Tattoo Studio, we are open Monday to Sunday ( 7 days a week ) bookings can be anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks in advance. Saturdays and Sundays are generally booked out in advance, don't leave it to the last minute when we are in town.
Can I drink alcohol or take smoke breaks during my appointment?
NO. Tattoo Fever is a Professional Business that is run in a hygienic environment. The same rules apply in here as in any other business. Smoking breaks aren't allowed during your appointment or on the premises, as the smell travels through the whole studio and creates an unhygienic environment. We request that you refrain from smoking at least 1/2 hour before your appointment.
